Hal Blitman, one of the most successful basketball coaches in Delaware County history, passed away recently in Roswell, Ga., at the age of 82.

Blitman had a 107-15 record in five years as head coach at Darby-Colwyn High. His 1962 and 1963 teams, led by Charles “Pete” Coleman, Harold Booker and Sonny Realer, won PIAA Class B championships.

He left D-C to coach at Cheyney University, where he won 137 games in six seasons before becoming an assistant coach with the Miami Floridians of the American Basketball Association. He became the Floridians’ head coach during the 1969-70 season, but was fired at the end of the 1970-71 campaign.
