The Skyline High boys basketball team literally outlasted Santa Teresa-San Jose Thursday in the first round of the Granada Holiday Classic. The Titans won 97-94 in six overtimes. I’m in the process of researching to find out if this is a record for an East Bay varsity basketball team regarding the most overtimes played in one game.

“Just unbelievable,” said Skyline coach Max Langaard about that game. “The kids played their hearts out, both teams.”

He said that in the fourth overtime, Santa Teresa’s TJ Bird sank a leaning runner off the glass with one second remaining to force a fifth overtime. In the sixth overtime, Kendrick Payne hit a 3-pointer and Paris Davis scored four points as the Titans outscored the Saints 10-7 to finally end the game.

Paris Davis scored a game-high 35 points for Skyline, and teammate Vincent Golson added 19. Derek King had a team-high 26 points for Santa Teresa.
