You questioned which team took that beating. It was South Cameron

newspapers refer to South Cameron being in Creole). The school and
the community were wiped out in Hurricane Rita. I doubt you would

Gerry Hines--503-593-1485- 2/17/12.Breaking the Backboard
Chuck Connors is one of only
twelve athletes in history to have played for both Major
League Baseball and in the NBA. Connors
is credited with being the first professional basketball player to break
a backboard. Connors jumped center and smashed the glass
backboard in the first-ever Boston Celtics game on Nov. 5, 1946 at Boston
Arena. But
he was best known as "Lucas McCain" in the ABC television Western series The
Rifleman (1958-1963).
Darryl Dawkins (Philadelphia
76ers), nicknamed "Chocolate Thunder"-In
a game against the Kansas
City Kings in November 1979 Dawkins
threw down such a massive dunk that the backboard shattered into a
thousand tiny shards, sending the Kings Bill
Robinzine ducking for cover and amazing a nation of fans.
Three weeks later he did it again. A few days after that the NBA ruled
that breaking a backboard was an offense that would result in a fine and
suspension. Dawkins has the record for most personal fouls committed in
a season, with 386 in 1984, which is seven more than his 379 fouls the previous
year, which ranks second all time. He later was the head
coach of the Allentown,
Pennsylvania-based Pennsylvania
ValleyDawgs of the United
States Basketball League until they folded. (Credit: Wikipedia)
